Best Richmond Preschool

For Richmond preschools and from my personal experience, I think the best one is St. Mary’s Episcopal School which is part of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. It is in a very convenient location for those living in Goochland or Powhatan and also western Henrico and Richmond.

We have a seven year old that went from 3 day class to the 5 day class. They offer a 2 day for year class for two year old children all they way up to JK for 5 year old children. The school is in great condition, clean and well kept. I can’t say enough about how nice and friendly the teachers and administrators are and the attention for the children is fantastic. The tuition is also very reasonable. I highly recommend them.

Hurricane Preparation Checklist and Plan

Ok Richmond Va here is my basic hurricane preparation plan for hurricane Irene. It doesn’t look like Irene will go nearly as far West as Isabel did so with any luck we won’t have all the tree damage and power-line issues that we had for weeks after that hurricane.

It is advisable to have some type of plan and backup ready to go. If you have a generator make sure it is running and get all your cables and cords together for immediate use. I also recommend a chainsaw and make sure it runs and starts quickly. Have back up gas for both. I keep 4 or 5 gallons of gas for the generator and one for the saw.

I’ll never forget not having ice. So I fill my large Igloo cooler full of ice and a few beers and some gallons of water. These I can always take out if I need the space. I charge my solar lantern for a full day and make sue I have backup AA batteries and 6volt flashlight batteries. Have three or four flashlights. I get some extra bags of pretzels and chips for the kids and a bag of rice which is easy to cook and will run fine on my generator. You also might want to have a Coleman stove or hurricane oil lamps for longer power outages just in case. You can get all these at Walmart or Target cheap and don’t forget a few extra bottles of gas for the stove. If you like booze go ahead and get wine and spirits and something to do after dark like some good books or Dvds. A small type of pen light would be good for reading at night. Paper plates, cups and plastic utensils are nice since there is no running water. Any other ideas?

Keith Hodges Wins Primary 98th Disctrict

Keith Hodges has won the primary for the 98th district House of Delegates seat tonight.  Hodges was opposed by Catesby Jones, Sherwood Bowditch and Ken Gibson, all seeking the Republican nomination. Hodges had approximately 40% of vote, Bowditch 27%, Jones 16% and Gibson 15%.

Bowditch appeared to be a shoe-in with more contributions but Hodges forged a brilliant campaign and kept the heat on to win the primary.

To Tea Party Or Not

A matter of personal preference but if you don’t like what’s going on in Washington over the last twenty years it is time for a change before we bankrupt or county and our lives. If you think about it, this situation could get desperate if something like we witnessed in Japan occurs here or another terrorist attack or the like. Each of us needs to be prepared for “an event” if it should happen, it is just prudent to have extra food ect…ready to go. You can also help by displaying your patriotism and supporting our Constitution. You can do this through patriotic pictures like this star spangled banner print I found. It tells a bit of history behind the Writing of the Star Spangled Banner and the War of 1812. Francis Scott Key was the writer and the words have continued to inspire and embolden those freedomds we hold dear to us. Don’t let those freedoms be taken away.

Tokyo Shelves Bare No Food

The Tokyo store shelves are bare which is not surprising considering what they have been through and continue to struggle with. This is one area that Americans should really begin to take note and see how badly things can begin to unfold in tragic situations like this. Unforeseen events and catastrophes like this can and do happen. I heard recently that the US food supply line is something like three or two days. This means all the grocery stores get resupplied in that amount of time. If the chain breaks there would be no food left after 2-3 days or less depending on how much of a demand there was for food and water. Freeze dried foods might be another option for folks. If something like radiation comes into play it could be months if food and water are contaminated. My advice is to set aside at least 3 to 6 months of foods that will not spoil and enough water for your family. I would also have a means of securing your important items in your home. A large safe just in case things get really out of control those items will remain secure.

You really don’t know when an event like this is going to happen so the only thing he can do is take the initiative to protect your family and prepare for the unexpected. Because you know the unexpected will always happen.

Richmond In February

Well this weekend was absolutely gorgeous except for a bit breezy, but I will take that over a 30 degree wet snow any day. I got out of the house for a change and actually washed one of the cars and fired up the gator and took her for a spin down by the pond. I took my oldest daughter and we got a large card board box and made it into a castle of sorts. I almost forgot Valentines and went to get some balloons for my girls. Really nice weekend. Don’t forget George Washington’s Birthday is coming this weekend.
